Dartey was also linked to a marriage fraud scheme and was caught lying under oath in a separate case
Kojo Owusu Dartey, a U.S. Army Major of Ghanaian descent, has been sentenced to 70 months in prison for his role in an illegal firearms smuggling operation to Ghana. A jury found him guilty of conspiracy, firearms trafficking, and smuggling.
Court records reveal that Dartey concealed weapons in barrels under rice and household goods, shipping them from Baltimore to Tema with the help of an Army Chief Warrant Officer.
Ghanaian authorities intercepted the shipment, alerting U.S. officials.
Dartey was also linked to a marriage fraud scheme and was caught lying under oath in a separate case.
U.S. prosecutors emphasized the severity of his actions, stressing the global security risks posed by illegal arms trade.
