Efua Benneh, the grandmother of Justine Agbenu, one of the victims of the fatal East Legon accident, is calling for a revision of Ghana’s Juvenile Justice Act after a 16-year-old boy involved in the crash received just a six-month sentence.
The crash, which resulted in two deaths, has sparked outrage over the leniency of the punishment. Benneh criticized the light sentence, arguing that such reckless actions should carry harsher penalties.
Her plea has fueled a nationwide debate on whether the juvenile justice system should impose stricter punishments for severe crimes like manslaughter while balancing the goal of rehabilitation.
Many are calling for immediate reforms to ensure greater accountability.
