IT technician jailed 6 months for defrauding auto mechanic

The Kaneshie District Court One has sentenced Gideon Kojo Elliam, 37. He received six months of hard labor for defrauding an auto mechanic.

Elliam took GH¢53,000 from Mr. Daniel Odoi Otu. He promised to supply an auto diagnostic machine but never delivered it.

Elliam admitted to the charge and was sentenced accordingly. He confessed to taking GH¢37,000 but disputed the total amount claimed by Otu.

The Court advised Otu to pursue civil action against Elliam after his sentence is served.

Police Chief Inspector Achana Apeweh informed the Court about the case. Otu, an auto mechanic from Kasoa Nyayano, gave Elliam the money in May 2023.

Elliam, an IT technician from Takoradi, promised delivery by December 2023 but failed to do so. All attempts by Otu to contact him were unsuccessful.

Chief Inspector Apeweh stated that police arrested Elliam on April 1, 2025, at his hideout. During investigations, he confessed to using the money for personal expenses.

After the investigation, Elliam was charged and brought before the Court.
