Mechanic jailed 4 years for unlawful entry and attempted theft

The Odumase-Krobo Circuit Court has sentenced John Teye, 20, to four years in prison. He pleaded guilty to unlawful entry and attempted theft.

Kwasi Apiatse Abaidoo presided over the case. Teye was convicted on two charges. The first charge was unlawful entry under Section 152 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). The second charge was attempted theft under Section 18(1) of the same Act.

Chief Inspector John Brahene led the prosecution. He recounted that the crime happened on April 29, 2025, around 2:30 PM. The complainant, John Lawer, is a labourer from Yokwenor, a suburb of Odumase-Krobo. He had locked his room and stepped out to make a purchase.

Shortly after Lawer left, a neighbor noticed someone had broken into his room. The neighbor alerted other residents who rushed to help. They found Teye inside Lawer's room and apprehended him.

The residents handed Teye over to the police and filed a formal complaint. During interrogation, he admitted breaking in with the intent to steal a fan.

After police investigations, Teye was charged with unlawful entry and attempted theft. The court reviewed the case and his admission before sentencing him to four years in prison as a deterrent for others.
