A nautical engineer has been sentenced to 60 days in prison for defrauding a woman of GH₵86,000 under the pretense of securing her a German visa.
The court found him guilty after evidence revealed he failed to deliver on his promise and refused to refund the money.
The prosecution disclosed that the victim paid the amount in installments, trusting the engineer to facilitate the visa process.
However, after months of unfulfilled assurances, she filed a complaint leading to his arrest and prosecution.
In addition to the jail term, the judge ordered the engineer to fully refund the GH₵86,000 to the victim.
This case serves as a cautionary tale against falling prey to visa scams.
