A violent clash in Okurase, Upper West Akyem District, Eastern Region, has left one person feared dead and several others injured after a confrontation between local youth and land guards.

The conflict arose from a land dispute following the National Democratic Congress (NDC) victory in the 2024 elections.

Land guards, employed by developers, were allegedly attempting to secure disputed land claimed by local farmers. The clash occurred on December 11 when the youth, armed with machetes, ambushed the land guards.

Three guards were severely injured and taken to the chief’s palace, but the chief reportedly went into hiding, leaving the injured at the palace for hours.

The violence highlights growing concerns over land grabbing in the area.
