Police amend charges and facts in Ahmed Suale murder case

The Madina District Court has denied bail to Daniel Owusu Koranteng. He is a businessman held in connection with investigative journalist Ahmed Suale’s death. Prosecutors have amended the charges against him.

After hearing from both sides, the court remanded Koranteng into police custody until April 17, 2025. This was during his second appearance at the Madina District Court on April 2.

The court, presided over by Susana Nyakotey, did not take his plea. Koranteng, who is 35 years old, now faces charges of abetment of crime and murder. Previously, he was only charged with murder.

Koranteng allegedly worked with two others who are still at large to commit this crime. He is accused of murdering Ahmed Suale, the investigative journalist.

His defense counsel informed the court that since March 12, 2025, Koranteng has been denied police enquiry bail. The lawyer argued there is no evidence linking him to the alleged crime.

The defense requested protection from what they called "the cohesive powers" of the state and Ghana Police Service.

Chief Inspector Nana Afua Bamfoa led the prosecution and read out the amended facts. She stated that a relative of Suale had provided information about Koranteng's involvement.

Koranteng is identified as the Managing Director of ISPY Company Limited. Both he and Suale were employees of Tiger Eye P.I., led by Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

The prosecution claimed that Koranteng had an intimate relationship with Suale and his family before Suale's death. Tensions rose in June 2018 when Kennedy Agyapong aired images of Suale on NET2 TV, calling for retribution against him.

Suale later identified Koranteng as someone who shared his photographs with Agyapong through WhatsApp messages. On January 16, 2019, after these images were published, Suale was shot and killed in Madina.

Investigations revealed that Koranteng knew where Suale lived and led two accomplices to his home before and after the murder. The prosecution stated that Koranteng fled Madina for Amasaman shortly after the incident around 11:15 PM.

He eventually left for the United Kingdom sometime in 2019 after Suale's murder. During investigations, he declined a police invitation and disguised himself using another person's ID to change his SIM card registration.

Koranteng returned to Ghana later on and was arrested in Amasaman on March 15, 2025. He admitted knowing Kennedy Agyapong and visiting his residence but denied selling any photographs of himself or Suale.

Police investigations continue as they seek to apprehend those suspects still at large.
