Police in the Ashanti South Region have arrested a 25-year-old man. He was found with 207 rounds of ammunition and three magazines.
Yussif Mohammed was apprehended at the Asankare barrier. The Konongo Divisional Police, along with some citizens, assisted in the arrest.
The ammunition was discovered in a backpack. The suspect was on a bus traveling from Kumasi to Accra when the backpack fell.
According to police, ACP Cephas Arthur stated that officers nearby noticed the bag. They detained Yussif after he claimed ownership of it.
Inside the bag were two empty CZ magazines and one empty G3 magazine. There were also two loaded G3 magazines, each containing eight rounds of ammunition.
Additionally, police found thirty-five rounds of CZ ammunition and 42 rounds of AK-41 ammunition. There were also 97 rounds of G3 ammunition and 16 rounds of Redheaded G3 ammunition.
Other items included dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, a bulletproof vest, and two smocks with embedded talismans. The bag also contained military trousers and boots.
The police have started an investigation into this incident. They plan to bring the suspect before court soon.
Regional Commander ACP Joseph Hammond Nyaaba reassured residents about crime prevention efforts.
He warned criminals that operations have intensified to eliminate crime in the community. This aims to create a safe environment for everyone’s socio-economic activities without fear or hindrance.
