Police arrest leader of car rental theft syndicate

The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has arrested Nana Anderson. He is a suspected car rental thief and fraudster.

A press release from Superintendent Juliana Obeng, the Public Relations Officer, shared details of the arrest. Anderson, 37 years old and unemployed, was caught on April 5, 2025. He was hiding in Atasemanso, Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region.

Anderson is also known by several names: Anderson Nana Abeka, Essel Kofi Elvis, and Wilson Kojo Bismark. His alleged accomplice, Gideon Baah, is still at large.

Superintendent Obeng stated that investigations showed Anderson rented a Hyundai Elantra on March 25, 2025. He used forged ECOWAS identity and driver’s license cards to deceive the rental partner in Tema.

Anderson failed to return the vehicle and disabled its tracking system. Further investigation revealed he was part of a syndicate stealing vehicles between January and March 2025.

This included a Kia Forte at Hatso and a Honda Civic at Amasaman. They also stole a Kia Ultima at Spintex in Greater Accra Region. Police found that Anderson received GH¢4,000 for each stolen vehicle.

Upon his arrest, he admitted to the crime. He led police to Millennium City near Kasoa but did not find Baah there.

“Efforts are underway to apprehend Baah,” confirmed Superintendent Obeng.

Anderson has been arraigned while investigations continue.
