Police arrest suspect in viral machete attack video

The Ghana Police Service has arrested Dawuda Sumaila, the man captured in a viral video assaulting a young man with a machete near a fuel tanker at Anyinam in the Eastern Region.

Sumaila, a tanker driver’s mate, was picked up on April 9, 2025, through an intelligence-led operation, five days after the incident occurred on Friday, April 4.

The disturbing video, which has since circulated widely on social media, sparked public outrage and demands for swift justice. It shows the suspect attacking the victim with a machete in broad daylight, prompting calls for accountability.

Police say Sumaila is currently in custody and assisting with investigations.

The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that the case is being handled with urgency, and updates will be shared as the probe continues.
