Police gun down armed robber in Wenchi; three escape

Police in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region shot and killed an armed robber during a patrol operation on Saturday, December 28, 2024.

The incident occurred near the Awisa cemetery, where a group of four robbers ambushed travelers, targeting a Sprinter bus and a Yutong bus.

The robbers forcibly took valuables from passengers before police arrived in response to a distress call.

A gunfire exchange ensued, resulting in the death of one robber, while three others fled into nearby bushes.

Items recovered included a locally made single-barrel gun, mobile phones, a power bank, BB cartridges, and cash.

The deceased’s body has been sent to the mortuary as investigations continue. Police are yet to release an official statement on the incident.
