The Ashanti Regional Police Command is investigating a tragic shooting in Nyinahin. This incident occurred on Thursday, April 24, 2025. One person died and three others were injured.
According to police reports, the shooting happened around 11:00 a.m. A group of young people was heading to the cemetery along the Kumasi–Bibiani Highway. They were going to bury a friend.
During the procession, a military truck stopped after seeing a mourner in camouflage. Soldiers approached this mourner and tried to remove his attire by force. A confrontation broke out, and a soldier shot the mourner in the head, killing him instantly.
The deceased has been identified as Akwasi Lala, known as Kushivi. As tensions rose, military personnel fired more shots to disperse the mourners. This resulted in injuries to three additional individuals.
These injured individuals are currently receiving medical treatment and are recovering well. A police investigative team arrived at the scene shortly after the incident. They collected spent shell casings for forensic analysis.
The body of Akwasi Lala has been taken to the Nyinahin Community Mortuary for an autopsy. The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, visited both the scene and the hospital where the injured are being treated.
He assured the community that there would be a thorough investigation. He pledged that anyone found responsible would face justice. The Police Command is working with the Central Military Command regarding the soldiers involved.
They aim to facilitate their release for ongoing investigations. Meanwhile, police urge the public to remain calm and cooperate fully during this process.
