Soldiers jailed 10 years for kidnapping and robbing miner of GHC96,500

The Asante Bekwai Circuit Court has sentenced Air Force Lance Corporals Alfred Mensah, 33, and Matthew Amoako, 28, to 10 years of hard labor each for kidnapping and robbing a small-scale miner of GHC96,500.

Despite denying the charges, a full trial found them guilty.

Three accomplices, including two soldiers and a driver, remain at large.

The gang, dressed in military uniforms, invaded the miner’s home in Asiwa, attacking him and his family, and extorting money.

They later abducted him but abandoned him in a forest when two of them were arrested by locals.

Police retrieved some stolen items, while the remaining culprits are being pursued.
