A 36-year-old teacher, John Ankomah Boateng, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison with hard labor by the Bekwai Circuit Court for stealing over GHS 238,550 from Bosomefreho Rural Bank in the Ashanti Region.
Boateng, a teacher at Freso SDA Junior High School, pleaded guilty to the theft after using the GhanaPay app to withdraw the funds between February 9 and 26, 2024, despite having only GHS 2.23 in his account.
Following investigations, the accused was arrested and admitted to transferring large sums of the stolen money to various individuals, including a travel agent.
The court sentenced him after he confessed to the crime.
