Two friends get 3-year jail term each for stealing

Two friends have been sentenced to three years in prison. The Asante Abuakwa circuit court convicted them for stealing five sliding window frames. The frames were valued at GH¢2,500.00 and were taken from Abuakwa-Abakomadi.

The two men are Yaw Paul, 28, a driver’s mate, and Stephen Boakye, 23, an apprentice mechanic. They both pleaded guilty to the charges.

Police Chief Inspector Evans Baaba Ayimbisah prosecuted the case. He told the court that the accused lived in Abuakwa-Maakro. The complainant, George Osei, is an aluminum fabricator from Abakomadi.

On April 13 this year, a police officer stopped a pragia rider. The rider had Yaw Paul and Stephen Boakye on board. The officer noticed five sliding window frames in the vehicle.

When questioned, the rider Isaac Amankwah said they hired him to transport the frames to Kumasi. The officer then questioned Paul and Boakye but they could not provide satisfactory answers.

As a result, they were taken to Tanoso police station for further questioning. After an investigation, they confessed to stealing the items from Abakomadi.

On April 14, police took them back to the crime scene. The complainant identified the stolen frames as his property. Both accused admitted their guilt in their caution statements before being charged and brought to court.
