Two individuals were shot and killed in Atuba, a suburb of the Binduri District in the Upper East Region, in what is suspected to be a spillover of the ongoing Bawku conflict.

The attack occurred on Monday, March 17, 2025, when unidentified gunmen on motorbikes opened fire on traders at a busy market, killing a veterinary officer identified as Mohammed and a local pastor.

While the exact motive remains unclear, the incident is believed to be linked to the long-standing conflict in Bawku, which has claimed approximately 76 lives since its resurgence in October 2024.

Meanwhile, efforts to resolve the crisis continue, with key national figures, including the Asantehene, leading mediation talks to restore peace in the region.
