Volta Regional Police intercept ammunition bound for Benin

The Volta Regional Police Command intercepted a large cache of ammunition. This happened on a commercial bus heading to Benin.

The operation took place early on Friday, April 18, 2025. It occurred at the Tadzewu-Mitsrikasa Police barrier.

Police officers conducted a routine search on a Hyundai passenger bus. The bus had the registration number GR 8246-Q. It was traveling from Accra to Benin.

During the search, officers found 60 cartons of AAA cartridges. This amounted to 15,000 pieces. They also discovered 72 cartons of BB cartridges, totaling 18,000 pieces. The ammunition was hidden in sacks under passengers’ luggage.

The driver, Abasou Fousseni, is 45 years old. His co-driver, Salisu Jalilu, is 38 years old. Both were arrested for questioning. Initially, they denied knowing about the concealed items. However, police intelligence indicated that the co-driver loaded the illegal goods.

After preliminary investigations, the driver received police enquiry bail. He was allowed to transport passengers to their destination.

The co-driver remains in custody and is helping with further investigations. He is expected in court on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
