A Circuit Court at Denu Torkor in Aflao has granted bail to Hawa Fuseini. The bail amount is GH¢70,000. She was charged with importing non-compliant pharmaceutical products without a license.
Hawa remains in police custody. She cannot meet the bail conditions, which require two sureties, one of whom must be justified.
She pleaded guilty with an explanation to the two charges. Hawa is scheduled to reappear in court on May 28.
Hawa explained her situation to the court. She had been unwell and stayed in Lome, Togo for three months. While there, she was advised to sell aphrodisiacs for income.
She accepted this advice and received products on credit for her business in Accra. However, she was arrested at the border and asked for leniency.
Police Inspector Albert Kumbor prosecuted the case. He told the court that Hawa was arrested at the Aflao border by Food and Drugs Authority officials.
She was traveling to Accra on a Nagode Transport bus from Togo when arrested on May 9 around 5:30 PM.
The authorities found packets of 200mg Mygra Sildanfil Citrate and 200mg Heira Sildanfil Citrate aphrodisiacs concealed in a Cream Cracker carton.
