A 45-year-old woman, Faustina Foli, has been remanded by an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly defrauding an insurance officer of GHC265,000 under the pretense of securing U.S. and Canadian visas.

Foli, unemployed and facing charges of defrauding by false pretenses, pleaded not guilty.

The court denied bail, noting her prior escape after being granted bail by another court.

Prosecutors revealed that Foli, claiming her fiancé worked at the Canadian High Commission, convinced the complainant, Daniel Acquay, to pay for visas.

After collecting the money and passports, she vanished.

Foli admitted to receiving the funds but failed to assist investigations.

The case continues on December 24, with prosecutors probing her claims further.
