Woman, two others jailed for phone robbery

The Ho Circuit Court has sentenced three people to 19 years in prison for robbery.

Mercy Sokpe, 22, Atsu Kamasa, 25, and Godfred Dzidonu, 19, pleaded guilty. They conspired to rob a man of his mobile phone.

Judge Osman Abdul Hakeem sentenced each to three years for conspiracy. Atsu and Godfred received an additional five years for robbery.

On May 4, 2025, the convicts planned to rob Elijah Torgbedzi, 21. They targeted his iPhone 6s worth GH¢700 near the Ho central market.

Mercy approached Elijah and asked to take a selfie with his phone. While taking the selfie, she signaled her accomplices to attack him.

They used scissors during the attack and stole the iPhone. Elijah raised an alarm after the incident.

Godfred was caught with the iPhone and handed over to police. Investigations led to Mercy and Atsu's arrest at their hideouts in Ho.
