Minister-Designate for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has confirmed that 156 Ghanaians are facing imminent deportation from the United States, addressing recent reports of 6,200 individuals at risk.
During his appearance before Parliament’s Appointments Committee, he assured that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in active communication with U.S. authorities to ensure the rights of affected Ghanaians are protected.
Ablakwa clarified that official information received from Washington D.C. only cited 156 cases of imminent deportation, dispelling fears of mass expulsions.
The Trump administration has intensified immigration enforcement, with over 3,500 arrests by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Deportation flights have already begun, with U.S. military aircraft transporting migrants to their home countries.
