A 53-year-old Ghanaian fisherman, Moses Odonkor, tragically lost his life in a workplace accident off the Cork coast in Ireland.
The incident occurred on Monday near the Porcupine Bank, where Odonkor sustained fatal injuries while working on a trawler.
Despite desperate efforts by his crewmates, he was pronounced dead before emergency services could respond. Following the accident, the vessel returned to Castletownbere.
Originally from Ghana, Odonkor had lived in Ireland for over 20 years, settling in Skibbereen with his wife, Philomena, and their children. His repatriation to Ghana has been arranged.
Authorities, including the GardaĆ and the Marine Casualty Investigation Unit, are treating the incident as a tragic workplace accident.
The local fishing community has expressed deep sorrow over his passing, with tributes pouring in from colleagues and support organizations.
