Ghanaian man living in UK since 1977 can stay - Home Office

A Ghanaian man, who has resided in the UK since 1977, has gained the right to remain in the country after a lengthy legal battle with the Home Office. Benjamin Aidoo, now 69, initially moved to Britain for work as a nurse but faced challenges due to immigration regulations. His application for permanent residency was previously denied due to a lack of documentation proving his continuous stay.

However, following persistent efforts and legal assistance from the charity Migrant Advice Service, Aidoo's case was re-evaluated. The tribunal acknowledged that he had established a life in the UK over the decades and had contributed positively to society. Aidoo expressed relief at the ruling, stating it allows him to continue living without fear of deportation.

This decision highlights ongoing issues surrounding immigration policy and its impact on individuals who have built their lives in foreign countries. Advocates emphasize that many long-term residents face similar predicaments, underscoring the need for more compassionate immigration laws that recognize individual circumstances.
