As of November 2024, the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has reported that 12,646 Ghanaians have been deported from various countries over the past five years.

This includes 8,186 males and 4,459 females, with the highest deportation figures coming from Libya, the UK, Germany, the US, and Canada.

The year 2022 saw the largest number, with 3,028 deportations.

Madam Yaa Oppong Opoku-Agyeman, Assistant Commissioner of Immigration, discussed these figures during an event in Accra for International Migrants Day, emphasizing the importance of safe migration and responsible travel.

She also highlighted the challenges of irregular migration, including exploitation and loss of life.

Key speakers called for better policies to support legal migration and opportunities for Ghanaian youth abroad.
