Kwame Asare Obeng, known as A-Plus, is an Independent MP for Gomoa Central. He recently expressed dissatisfaction with his salary. In an interview on April 3, 2025, he revealed he takes home GH₵15,000 monthly after deductions. He believes this amount is insufficient for the demanding work of a legislator.
A-Plus reflected on his previous career in the private sector. He noted that he earned much more before entering politics. Often, he made more in one day than his current monthly salary.
"My main focus is solving people’s problems," A-Plus said. "That’s why I started the People’s Project." He emphasized that if someone approaches him with a concern, he will help if possible. However, he finds being an MP extremely difficult and feels the salary is inadequate.
He mentioned reviewing his bank statements from 2020. It was clear that he earned significantly more money back then. In just one day, he could earn what he now receives in a month as an MP.
Despite these financial challenges, A-Plus praised his parliamentary colleagues' dedication. His understanding of the role has changed since becoming an MP. He admitted that many underestimate the rigorous demands and responsibilities of MPs.
His comments highlight the often-overlooked financial realities faced by MPs. They challenge common perceptions about the lucrative nature of political office.
