He clarified that even if a couple completes all legal and ceremonial steps, the marriage is not considered complete without this physical aspect.

If a marriage isn't consummated, it is deemed legally non-existent, leading to an annulment rather than a divorce.

Justice Tutu's comments highlight that consummation is a crucial element for a marriage to be recognized by the law.
