A radio station declined to play my song because it was in Ewe –Keeny Ice

Keeny Ice Discusses Language Barriers in Ghana's Music Industry

Keeny Ice is a top artist from the Volta Region. He recently spoke about challenges in the music industry. One major issue is the language barrier.

During an interview on Daybreak Hitz, he shared his experience. He took a song to a radio station, but they refused to play it. They said they couldn't understand the Ewe lyrics.

Keeny explained that songs in less popular languages face difficulties. Many people have misconceptions about music's universality. He asked how artists who speak Dagbani or Ewe can succeed when Twi and Fante dominate.

He noted that his song choices influence the language he uses. Although he is Ewe, not all his songs are in that language. Some of his tracks contain no Ewe words at all.

Additionally, Keeny mentioned a trend among Ghanaian rappers. Many have shifted towards singing instead of rapping lately.
