A Brazilian judge has ordered Adele's 2015 song Million Years Ago to be pulled globally due to a plagiarism claim by composer Toninho Geraes.
Geraes alleges the track plagiarizes his 1995 song Mulheres, recorded by Martinho da Vila.
The preliminary injunction from Judge Victor Torres in Rio de Janeiro demands that Sony and Universal halt the use, distribution, and streaming of Adele's song, with a potential fine of $8,000 per violation.
The case, filed in 2021, is ongoing, but Geraes' lawyer, Fredimio Trotta, pushed for stricter measures as the case dragged on.
Geraes seeks lost royalties, $160,000 in damages, and songwriting credit.
Adele's representatives and labels have yet to respond.
Adele recently concluded her Las Vegas residency, stating she needs a break from performing.
