Adom FM’s DJ Awana passes on

Samuel Tei Mensah Nartey, known as DJ Awana, has died. He was a celebrated Ghanaian disc jockey and worked for the Multimedia Group.

DJ Awana passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2025. He died at the 37 Military Hospital after a short illness.

He started his media career over twenty years ago at Adom FM. At that time, the station was based in Tema.

DJ Awana quickly became a prominent figure in Ghana’s media and live events. His gentle demeanor and soft-spoken nature won many hearts.

He was known for his careful song selection for every occasion. His signature jingle made him a household name: “Awana was Onie o! Awanna Nie o! Ɛyɛ wo nwanwa!!!”

After his death, many Ghanaians mourned him on social media. Media personalities like Afia Pokua (Vim Lady) and Nana Yaa Konadu Yiadom expressed their condolences. Veteran DJ Ashmen also shared his grief online.
