Actress and producer Yvonne Nelson has described her time at Aggrey Memorial Secondary School as a “nightmare,” citing poor experiences that left lasting negative impressions.
Speaking on Joy Learning TV’s The Career Trail, she revealed she had no choice in attending the school, as her stepfather, the PTA Chair, made that decision for her.
Yvonne recalled being forced to study Accounting—a subject she had no passion for—while enduring harsh disciplinary practices including excessive caning. She admitted skipping classes and exams due to fear and disinterest.
Comparing her SHS experience to private NOVDEC coaching, she praised her coach’s patient approach for helping her excel.
Yvonne also condemned the school’s poor-quality meals and unhygienic conditions, stressing the need for honest conversations to improve the state of Ghana’s secondary education system.
