President John Dramani Mahama has called for a celebration of Agya Koo Nimo. He wants to honor the highlife music legend while he is still alive. The President emphasized that iconic figures should be recognized before they pass away.
He spoke at the launch of the Blackstar Experience on May 1, 2025. This event took place at Blackstar Square in Accra. Agya Koo Nimo is a prominent figure in palmwine music.
“I asked if Agya Koo Nimo was still alive, and I hear he is,” President Mahama said. “This is a man we must honor before he passes.” He noted that this genre of music is part of Ghana's musical heritage.
“We should not wait until they die and cry at their funerals,” he added. The President then directed Minister Abla Dzifa Gomashie to organize a special ceremony for Agya Koo Nimo.
“Wherever Agya Koo Nimo is, Dzifa, you and your team should organize something,” he urged. “Let’s honor him again before God calls him.”
The event also marked the national launch of the Blackstar Experience. President Mahama was the Guest of Honour at this launch. Key figures from Ghana’s tourism, arts, and creative industries attended.
The Blackstar Experience aims to be Ghana’s leading brand in culture and tourism. It seeks to connect local and international audiences while celebrating Ghanaian hospitality.
