Ghanaian musician Gladstorm Kwabena Akwaboah Jnr., known as Akwaboah Jnr, has raised concerns about double standards in the gospel music industry.
He recently released a song with the TY Crew gospel group. However, he feels that gospel platforms are ignoring it because of his secular background.
Akwaboah expressed frustration over what he sees as hypocrisy among self-proclaimed Christians. He noted that fellow artist Kwame Eugene received significant attention for his gospel track written for Joyce Blessing. This song was widely supported by various gospel platforms.
In contrast, Akwaboah pointed out that Eugene’s song for Gifty Osei, titled “Watch Me,” is embraced by churches. This song was also created by a secular artist.
He asked his audience if secular musicians would receive similar recognition from churches or gospel platforms. This question highlights the injustice felt by many musicians whose work is dismissed based on genre.
Akwaboah further questioned societal beliefs that label secular musicians as sinners while elevating gospel artists. He challenged the notion of who decides who is righteous and who is not.
He emphasized the need for change and understanding in this area. Akwaboah believes it’s time for Ghanaians to appreciate the artistry of secular musicians.
With optimism, he urged fans to look forward to his upcoming gospel music, stating, “All this hypocrisy must stop.”
