Akwasi Agyemang resigns as CEO of Ghana Tourism Authority

Akwasi Agyeman has stepped down as the CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), handing over to Otto Langmane, Acting Chief Director of MoTAC, and Ekow Sampson, Deputy CEO for Operations.

During his tenure, starting in 2017, Agyeman spearheaded significant growth in both international and domestic tourism.

He successfully navigated the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, increasing international arrivals from 355,108 in 2020 to 1.1 million by 2023, surpassing pre-pandemic numbers.

Domestically, visitor numbers rose from 456,000 in 2017 to 1.4 million in 2023.

His leadership saw the success of landmark initiatives like “The Year of Return” and “Beyond the Return”, making Ghana a top global tourist destination. In 2019, he received the Outstanding Industry Personality award for his digital tourism campaigns.
