Alabaster Box sues Medikal over ‘Akwaaba’ interpolation

Medikal Sued by Alabaster Box

About a week ago, Alabaster Box threatened legal action against rapper Medikal. Now, the Ghanaian a cappella group has officially sued him. They claim he used part of their song ‘Akwaaba’ without permission.

Alabaster Box says Medikal included a portion of their song in his track ‘Welcome to Africa.’ They wrote a letter stating that the first 10 seconds of his song reproduces theirs.

The group believes the title and verses of Medikal’s song show it is derived from ‘Akwaaba.’ They also allege that his aggressive promotion on streaming platforms worsens the violation.

Alabaster Box's lawyers demand immediate removal of ‘Welcome to Africa’ from all platforms. They want an end to any marketing or performances related to the track.

Additionally, they seek termination of contracts linked to its production and distribution. The group wants Medikal to account for revenue generated from the song. They also request details about individuals or companies involved in its promotion.

They warned that failure to meet these demands would lead to legal action against Medikal.
