Alabaster Box threatens legal action against Medikal over ‘Akwaaba’ sample

Lawyers for the Ghanaian a cappella group Alabaster Box have contacted rapper Medikal. His real name is Samuel Adu Frimpong. They claim he used part of their song without permission.

The letter, seen by myjoyonline.com, states that Medikal sampled their song "Akwaaba." This sample appears in his new track titled "Welcome to Africa." The first 10 seconds of Medikal's song reproduces their work.

Alabaster Box argues that the title and lyrics of Medikal’s song show it is derived from "Akwaaba." They also allege that his aggressive promotion on streaming platforms worsens the violation.

The lawyers demand immediate removal of "Welcome to Africa" from all platforms. They want an end to any marketing or performances related to the track. Additionally, they seek termination of contracts tied to its production and distribution.

Furthermore, Alabaster Box requests an accounting of revenue generated from the song. They want details about all individuals or companies involved in its promotion and distribution.

They warn that failure to meet these demands will lead to legal action against Medikal. As of now, Medikal has not responded to these allegations.
