Veteran comedian and filmmaker Kwaku Sintim-Misa, known as KSM, has criticized Ghana's journalism. He believes it has declined into sensationalism and political bias.
KSM spoke on The Career Trail program on Joy Learning TV. He expressed concern about the loss of professionalism in the media.
He noted that journalism in Ghana is now politicized. Journalists often align with either the NPP or NDC parties. This trend is unfortunate, he said.
KSM also criticized the media's focus on shallow content. He believes many journalists prioritize clicks over facts and public service.
“It’s easier to go for the sensational,” he remarked. “Sadly, there’s an audience for that.”
He pointed out that digital platforms have worsened this issue. Many bloggers choose drama over substance to gain attention.
“Journalism has become cheap and sensational,” he stated. Online and social media have disrupted traditional standards of journalism.
KSM acknowledged some hope remains in the field. He mentioned brilliant journalists like Erastus Asare as examples of quality work.
He concluded with a call to action for aspiring journalists. “Make a conscious effort to set yourself apart,” he urged them. Focus on uplifting and informative journalism, not sensationalism.
