BMG executive outlines why Stonebwoy's most worthy of TGMAs AoTY accolade

Vida Adutwumwaa Boateng is the Head of Public Relations for Burniton Music Group (BMG). She believes that Stonebwoy deserves to win the Artiste of the Year (AoTY) trophy at the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs).

She stated, “No one in that category beats Stonebwoy.” This is based on audience appeal and nominations. The TGMAs Board defines AoTY as the artist with the highest popularity and audience appeal.

Last year, Stonebwoy won AoTY for the second time. He claimed it was actually his third win. He said if 2019 had been announced correctly, he would have won then too.

Vida explained why Stonebwoy deserves to win again in 2025. He has three major hits: "Psalm 23," "Ekelebe," and "Jiggle and Whine." These songs are from his album "Up and Runnin6" and have received multiple nominations.

She noted that no other artist can match this record. The album features artists like Wyclef Jean and Duncan Mighty. It has gained popularity not just in Ghana but also globally.

This year, Stonebwoy received eight nominations, making him the highest nominee at the TGMA. None of his competitors in the AoTY category can match this achievement.

Vida emphasized Stonebwoy's unmatched street credibility. His shows sell out in Ghana and abroad, including a recent tour in the UK.

She addressed critics who say a back-to-back win would be unfair to younger artists. For its 26th edition on May 3, 2025, TGMAs will feature Black Sherif, King Promise, Joe Mettle, Team Eternity Ghana (TEG), and Stonebwoy.

Vida argued that Stonebwoy’s success comes from hard work and consistency. His dedication has made him a favorite performer and Ghana's biggest music export. She believes we should not compromise on consistency just to reward newcomers in the AoTY category.
