Veteran Nollywood actor Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) has expressed his discomfort with being referred to as a “legend,” describing the title as a “scam” during his appearance on the Curiosity Made Me Ask podcast.

While RMD acknowledges the respect given to him by fans and the industry, he insists that he does not see himself as a legend. He cited renowned actors like Pete Edochie and Olu Jacobs as true legends in the Nigerian film industry.

“I have my legends like Uncle Pete and Uncle Olu Jacobs; these are our ancestors and legends,” he explained.

RMD further explained his displeasure with the title, saying, “I think the legend of a thing is a scam…when they call me that I feel they are trying to relegate me to the neighbourhood of retired people or those nearing retirement.”

The 63-year-old actor, who began his career in 1982, has enjoyed a prolific journey in the entertainment industry. Before his acting career, RMD worked as a journalist, contributing to publications such as Concord Newspapers, Metro Magazine, and The Guardian.

His journalism background provided him with valuable insights into the entertainment world and helped him establish important industry connections.

Though acting was his true passion, RMD made his major television debut in the 1980s with Ripples, a widely acclaimed Nigerian TV soap opera. Throughout the 1990s, as Nollywood flourished, RMD emerged as one of the industry's most prominent stars, known for his unique voice, sophisticated presence, and exceptional acting skills.

Over the years, RMD has become a beloved figure in Nollywood, starring in numerous iconic films where he played romantic leads, business moguls, and authoritative figures, leaving a lasting mark on the Nigerian film landscape.
