Bishop T.D. Jakes steps down from Potter’s House

Bishop T.D. Jakes, a renowned American pastor, has made a big announcement. He will hand over his role as senior pastor at The Potter’s House to his daughter, Sarah Jakes Roberts, and son-in-law, Touré Roberts. This change comes after 30 years of leadership.

The 67-year-old pastor was emotional during the announcement. He shared the news with the congregation on Sunday at The Potter’s House in Dallas, Texas. Sarah and Touré will officially take on their new roles in July 2025.

Despite stepping down, Bishop Jakes will stay on The Potter’s House Board of Directors. This ensures a smooth transition and continued guidance for the church community.

“You have been faithful to God, and you have been faithful to me,” he said while fighting back tears.

This decision follows a serious health scare for Bishop Jakes. In November 2024, he suffered a massive heart attack while preaching. “I cannot afford...to risk something happening to me,” he explained during Sunday’s announcement.

In an interview in March on the Today show, he reflected on that incident. He collapsed during the service but did not realize how serious it was until hospitalized. Doctors told him he had suffered a major heart attack and needed immediate medical help.

Bishop Jakes expressed deep gratitude for the prayers and support he received worldwide. He described his survival and recovery as nothing short of a miracle.
