Black Stars have no excuse not to qualify for 2026 World Cup – Mohammed Polo

Former Ghana international Mohammed Polo believes the Black Stars must qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

He says more African teams will participate, making qualification easier.

Polo urged players to avoid missing out on another major tournament. The team failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in 20 years.

"The younger players must honor the legacy left by their predecessors," he said. "They need to do everything possible to succeed."

He noted that qualifying for the World Cup is crucial. The number of slots has increased to five, which should help Ghana's chances.

Polo recalled their near semifinal run in 2010 but emphasized that they fell short. He mentioned Morocco's recent success and stressed that Ghana has much work ahead.

"This time, there are nine slots available," he stated. "There’s no reason they should miss out again."

He encouraged unity among players, saying they must play for Ghana and themselves.

Recently, Ghana went three points clear in their qualification group after wins over Chad and Madagascar.

The Black Stars lead Comoros by three points with four games remaining.
