Cerebral Palsy patient provides education for less privileged *Makes it to MTN Heroes finals

Nominee: Yaw Rockson Adangabey, 32 years
Occupation: School Proprietor
Town: Gbedema (Builsa South)
Project: Establishment of schools for the less privileged (Adangabey Royal Int. School)
Category: Education

What is your motivation?
I want to provide better education for children in rural areas. I aim to inspire the less privileged and those with disabilities. As a cerebral palsy patient, I overcame barriers to get an education. It hurts me to see able-bodied children miss out on good educational opportunities. This inspired me to start a preparatory school in Kadema.

I later discovered Gbedema, which has only one government school. This school admits children aged five and older. I decided to establish Adangbey Royal International School for younger children, starting at age two.

Explain your project
I founded Adangbey Royal International School as the first private school in Builsa South. My goal is to encourage early schooling for children. We aim to build a strong foundation for their future.

Currently, we operate from a rented two-bedroom house. We offer classes from nursery through primary four. Parents pay fees of GH₵120 or less, and no child is turned away for non-payment. We have a flexible payment structure tailored to each family.

How much impact has your project had?
So far, we have educated about 160 children at our facility. I hope to extend this opportunity to more underprivileged kids in distant communities.

How do you feel when you see your impact?
I feel happy and fulfilled knowing these children can attend school. This opportunity helps them grow into responsible citizens who will give back to their communities.

Do you have any plans for the future?
My vision is to expand this facility and offer free education for physically challenged children. I also want to establish more schools in deprived areas. I started a similar project in my home village of Kadema and handed it over to the community while still supervising it.
