Popular Ghanaian comedians Oh Joo and Parrot Mouth have addressed the misconception that comedians are mere "fools," arguing that the misunderstanding is often rooted in language differences.
Appearing on Channel One TV’s The Chat on April 12, 2025, the duo explained that the term "fooling" in Twi, which is used to describe humor, is often misunderstood when translated into English.
Oh Joo pointed out that in Ghana, a "fool" is often used in a negative sense, but in comedy, it refers to someone who is being funny, not unserious.
Parrot Mouth, while acknowledging the label, expressed that he takes pride in the value people place on his work, stating that people willingly pay significant amounts to watch his shows, empowering him as an entertainer.
The comedians aim to correct the narrative and highlight the creativity and strategy involved in comedy as a profession.
