Digital age kids need digital age parenting - Bovi

Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma has urged parents to rethink traditional parenting methods, arguing that corporal punishment is ineffective in today’s digital age.

Speaking on Nedu Wazobia’s Honest Brunch podcast, Bovi emphasized the need for modern approaches that align with current realities.

“Children today are growing up in a digital world,” Bovi said.

“We can’t raise them using the same methods from the analogue era. It no longer works.”

He pointed out that confinement or physical discipline does little to curb children's access to the outside world.

“Locking kids indoors or spanking them won’t stop them from exploring. A smartphone gives them access to more than we ever had.”

Bovi stressed that parenting now requires building trust and understanding.

He advised parents to move away from restrictive, outdated methods and focus on guiding their children to make informed decisions.

“When you lead with love and empathy, kids are more likely to seek your advice rather than hide things from you,” he concluded.
