Tems Urges Exploration of African Cultures
Temilade Openiyi, known as Tems, is a Grammy-winning singer. She encourages the world to look beyond stereotypes. She wants people to explore African cultures, especially in Nigeria and Ghana.
At the 2025 Met Gala in New York, she spoke with Fashion Bomb Daily. Tems urged foreigners to visit Lagos and Ghana. She believes this will help them understand life in Africa better.
She highlighted Africa's beauty through its rich cultures and creativity. “I always encourage people to go to Lagos and Ghana for vacation,” she said. “Just go and see for yourself before you make an opinion about Africa.”
Tems emphasized that Africa's beauty lies in creativity and traditions. She mentioned daily efforts, looks, songs, and cultural practices.
The singer also discussed the diversity of African music. Many people think it is only Afrobeats, but she disagrees. “We can go further in every single aspect of sound,” she stated.
“There is Amapiano, Afrosoul, R&B, Afro Jazz,” she added. “There are so many genres in African music that people have yet to discover.”
