Dorothy’s ruby slippers to be auctioned off

A pair of ruby red slippers worn by Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz is set for auction, expected to fetch up to $3 million. Once stolen from a Minnesota museum in 2005, they were recovered by the FBI in 2018.

Thief Terry Jon Martin mistakenly believed the sequins were real rubies.

The slippers, one of four surviving pairs, were part of the iconic 1939 film where Garland, then 16, played Dorothy.

The film's producers changed the slippers from silver to red to highlight Technicolor technology.

Known as the "Holy Grail of Hollywood memorabilia," the slippers hold cultural significance and are considered an American treasure.
