Drake pushes for Tory Lanez to be pardoned after prison attack

Rapper Drake has shared a petition for Tory Lanez's pardon. Lanez is a fellow Canadian rapper. He was attacked in prison last week.

Drake posted on Instagram, "Come home soon," with a link to the petition.

Lanez was stabbed 14 times by another inmate in California. This attack caused both of his lungs to collapse. He was rushed to a hospital and is expected to recover.

Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, is serving a 10-year sentence. He was convicted for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in 2020.

The attack happened at 7:20 AM local time on May 12. Pedro Calderón Michel from the corrections department confirmed this information. Staff provided first aid before Lanez was taken to a medical facility.

A post on Lanez's Instagram said he was stabbed in multiple areas. These include his back, torso, head, and face. He had to use a breathing apparatus but can now breathe on his own.

Despite being in pain, he is talking normally and feels thankful. The post mentioned that he is in good spirits.

The attacker, Santino Casio, is 41 years old. He is serving a life sentence for second-degree murder and other violent crimes. Officials say he has been placed in "restricted housing" during the investigation.

Casio arrived at Tehachapi prison in February 2004. He has received additional sentences for assaulting another prisoner and possessing a weapon.

Lanez shot Megan Thee Stallion as they left a pool party at Kylie Jenner's mansion in 2020. The case divided the hip-hop community with rappers taking sides.

Drake's song "Circo Loco" seems to reference this case indirectly. It implies that Megan lied about being shot, which she denies.

The petition shared by Drake has around 270,000 signatures now. It calls on Governor Gavin Newsom for a "full pardon." The Change.org petition questions evidence and witness accounts from the case.

Newsom has not commented on this request yet. Before his conviction, Lanez had seven top-10 albums in the US over seven years. He teased an upcoming album titled "Peterson" while still in prison.
