ECG missing containers: Energy Ministry seeks AG’s probe, possible legal action

Energy Minister John Jinapor announced new steps to find missing ECG containers.

Over 1,300 containers from the Electricity Company of Ghana disappeared from Tema Port.

In a media interview on April 2, he said his office asked the Attorney General for further investigations. This may lead to legal action against those responsible.

"We've written to the Attorney General for more investigations," he stated.

Mr. Jinapor also mentioned that the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) will conduct a forensic investigation. Their goal is to trace the missing containers and establish accountability.

To prevent further losses, he has contacted the National Security Secretariat for help. He wants to secure remaining containers for proper reconciliation.

"Some containers are still scattered," he noted. "We need to secure them while pursuing those unaccounted for."

Some containers have already been found, and arrests have been made. Those arrested include both Ghanaians and Chinese nationals.
