Efya Defends Ghanaian Artistes Amid Backlash After Davido's $5k Gift
Ghanaian singer Efya has responded to backlash against local artistes. This criticism intensified after Nigerian artist Davido donated $5,000 to a fan in Ghana.
Efya urged fans to lower their expectations of Ghanaian musicians. She highlighted the significant pay gap between Ghanaian and Nigerian artistes. Many fans have labeled Ghanaian musicians as unappreciative.
In an interview with Accra FM's Nana Romeo, Efya addressed the issue. She noted that Nigerian stars earn more from bigger shows. "Not everyone can donate that amount," she said. "We’re not rich enough to replicate such gestures."
Despite the financial differences, Efya claims she rewards her fans regularly. "I do giveaways on Twitter," she explained. "I also help pay school fees for some people privately."
Reactions from Ghanaians varied after Efya's comments on social media. One user stated that artists owe fans good music, not money. Another emphasized the importance of showing appreciation, even if it's a small gesture.
Kumawood actor Lil Win recently supported his colleague Kwasi Twumasi during health issues. He delivered food and toiletries to Twumasi’s home, expressing gratitude for his inspiration in the industry.
Overall, Efya's remarks highlight ongoing discussions about support among artistes and their relationship with fans.
