Efya has ‘no problem admitting’ Nigerian singers are financially superior to Ghanaian mates

Music star Efya has responded to claims that Ghanaian artists are not generous.

“Is that so? I often do giveaways on Twitter,” she said. She spoke with Nana Romeo on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ayekoo Ayekoo show.

Efya mentioned that she frequently gives money to random people online. She believes other Ghanaian artists do the same. However, she did not disclose her biggest gift to a fan.

“I can’t say it because it was private,” she explained. She added, “I’ve randomly paid school fees and stuff like that.” Most of the time, she prefers not to talk about these acts of kindness.

The discussion began after Nigerian singer Davido offered US$5,000 to Ghanaian TikTok creator Ananzoo. This was for a video showing him dancing to Davido's song "With You," featuring Omah Lay.

Efya noted, “Not everyone can give away that amount of money.” She emphasized that Nigerian artists have more financial resources than their Ghanaian counterparts.

“I’m sure if we had more money, we would give it away too,” she said. The One of Your Own hitmaker acknowledged the financial gap between Ghanaian and Nigerian artists.

She stated, “We don’t get paid the same way they do.” Nigerian artists play bigger shows, which affects earnings. Efya stressed the need for support among artists to reach larger platforms and earn more money.

Additionally, Efya highlighted the importance of the internet in today’s world. “Everything is at our fingertips because of the internet,” she said. She recognized how this has benefited content creator Ananzoo unexpectedly.
