Singer-songwriter Efya recently highlighted several talented female artists in Ghana. She named Anabel Rose, Haeven, Lali x Lola, Amaarae, Moliy, Baaba J, Ria Boss, Sefa, Cina Soul, and Gyakie as vibrant acts. Efya expressed excitement about their global impact through music.
She spoke with Nana Romeo on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ayekoo Ayekoo. During the interview, she lamented the lack of support for female talents in the creative arts industry. Efya suggested a unique approach to promote these artists.
“When was the last time all radio stations played Ghanaian female music?” she asked. She urged more attention to be given to female musicians. “The girls are doing stuff; you need to pay attention,” she emphasized.
Efya noted that the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs) 2025 has few female contestants. She attributed this to low streaming numbers for female artists’ music. “Their streams are not coming from here,” she said. Ghanaians seem disinterested in digital platforms like Apple Music and Spotify.
She encouraged fans to explore free-to-stream platforms like Audiomack instead.
Efya strongly disagreed with the idea that female artists do not support each other. “If you say that then you mean somebody helped me,” she stated. Romeo mentioned how male artists often help newcomers succeed in the industry.
“It’s not the same,” Efya replied. She explained that male artists have financial advantages when signing new talent. For equality, she called for a structured system that supports both financially and creatively.
Efya is dedicated to helping female musicians grow. “I spread my knowledge through seminars and other initiatives,” she shared.
She expressed gratitude towards those who see her as an inspiration or mentor. “I’m so grateful because I also took inspiration from others,” she said proudly.
“I live to inspire,” Efya emphasized again. She views being an inspiration as a significant honor and takes pride in it.
